USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER, At Sea (NNS) -- Jordanian Prince Feisal Bin Al-Hussein, lieutenant general and special assistant to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Jordanian Armed Forces, visited Rear Adm. Allen Myers, Commander Carrier Strike Group 8, aboard USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69)(Ike) while transiting the Suez Canal on May 3.
The delegation watched Carrier Air Wing 7 conduct deck landing qualifications from the flag bridge and also toured the flight deck and navigation spaces.
During a gift exchange, Myers extended his appreciation for hosting USS Ramage (DDG 61) in Aqaba, Jordan, recently.
Ike and USS Anzio (CG 68) departed the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations May 4, marking the completion of the Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group’s support for Operations Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom and maritime security operations (MSO) in the region.
MSO help set the conditions for security and stability in the maritime environment and complements the counter-terrorism and security efforts in regional nations’ littoral waters. Coalition forces also conduct MSO under international maritime conventions to ensure security and safety in international waters so that commercial shipping and fishing can occur safely in the region.
