Truck bomb detonates at Kirkuk police unit
Multi-National Division – North PAO
KIRKUK, Iraq – A large truck bomb exploded at a police station in Kirkuk, Monday, killing two Iraqi police officers and 10 local nationals.
Three Coalition Soldiers were injured by the blast and one later died of wounds.
Seventeen IPs and more than 180 local nationals were also wounded by the blast.
Of the Iraqis wounded, over ninety percent were treated for minor injuries and immediately released.
A suicide vehicle-borne improvised explosive device drove into the external barriers of the police station in northern Kirkuk city.
Coalition Forces and Iraqi first responders secured the site and provided immediate medical attention to the wounded.
The size of the blast also impacted a local girls’ school and students were injured by broken glass and debris.
The injured were taken to Kirkuk General and Azadi Hospital for treatment.
The names of the Soldiers are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
