Sri Lanka-LTTE-Attack
Six soldiers were killed and ten others wounded as Tamil Tigers rebels used light aircraft to bomb a military airbase in Sri Lanka's northern peninsula of Jaffna. This is the second air attack in less than a month.

According to reports received here quoting Sri Lanka's army chief Lt. Gen. Sarath Fonseka, the Tigers used light aircraft to attack Palaly military facility, but ground troops opened fire forcing them to change course.

Fonseka, appearing on national television, gave details of how the military forces beat back the rebel attack.

At least six soldiers were killed and about 10 wounded at Milady, which is within the Palaly military high security zone.

Tiger spokesman Rasiah Ilanthiryan said two light aircraft of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) bombed the Palaly air base in Jaffna and returned to their secret location in the Wanni region, further south.

"We have carried our second air attack late last night on the Palaly air field and their military stores," Ilanthiriyan said by telephone from an undisclosed location in the northern part of the Island.

The Tamil rebels staged their first air attack on March 26 by bombing the Katunayake air base, killing three and injuring 17 others.

Today's aerial attack comes just hours after suspected Tiger rebels set off a roadside bomb in Paraiyanalankulam in the Island's north, killing five and wounding 33 others.
