KHOST, Afghanistan (NNS) -- Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) Khost, Afghanistan, held a change of command April 11 during which Cmdr. David Adams relieved Cmdr. John F. Wade as commanding officer.
PRT Khost's mission is to help extend the reach of Afghanistan's government, enhance the security for all Afghans and aid in the reconstruction efforts.
Army Col. Marty Schweitzer, the guest speaker, described how Wade’s team of Sailors and Soldiers could be proud “they had helped bring democracy to 25 million Afghans.”
Under Wade's command, PRT Khost completed more than 39 projects valued at $6 million. In addition to laying a foundation and constructing a school, in one instance, they ensured children had school supplies and teachers received their salaries.
Wade spoke of how proud of the optimism and hope he and his team encountered during his tenure as the commanding officer. Wade and his team saw Khost’s provincial government become one of the strongest in Afghanistan. Over the past year, his team transitioned to all reconstruction efforts being planned and executed by the government.
Adams promised that his team would “respect the Afghan culture, people and religion.“ Adams committed his team to “ …continue to help the Afghan people recover from the desperate military, economic and political circumstances left over from over 30 years of turmoil."
