Issue of UK marines will be resolved in light of law, Hosseini
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, March 27, IRNA
Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini said on Tuesday that the issue of the UK marines will be resolved in light of law calling for self-restraint.
Asked by IRNA about the media provocations about arrest of 15 British marines in Iranian territorial waters, Hosseini said that the media hype will not help resolve the issue satisfactorily.
He said that the UK marines have violated Iranian territory rights with unauthorized entry into Iranian waters prompting legal proceedings to be held for them.
Hosseini said that humanitarian principles are fully observed in questioning the marines by justice officials.
Responding to a question when the British Embassy officials would be able to get in touch with the marines, Hosseini said that it would be possible after completion of the inquiry.
He made it clear that provocative statements will not help solve the problem, rather, it may overshadow the atmosphere in which the matter should be clarified.
Iranian Coast Guards arrested 15 UK marines for violation of Iranian territory rights in the Persian Gulf on Friday.
