New Australian Defence Air Traffic System (ADATS) Training facility

22 March 2007

The new ADATS Training facility, which will provide updated training capabilities and courses for the Australia Defence Force and their Air Traffic Management Systems, has been commissioned by Thales Australia.

This purpose built facility was recently opened in the Western Suburbs of Sydney located in St Mary's near Tregear Reserve.

The new Thales ADATS Training Facility will be the focal point for all maintenance training activities for the Australian Defence Force in relation to their ADATS Air Traffic Management System.

Thales Australia will be responsible for the ongoing maintenance of the ADATS training infrastructure as well as the delivery of the maintenance training courses. Two types of training courses are conducted.

The "Automation" course is designed for all tower control systems and, the "Radar" course is intended for external radars attached to the overall system. Both courses instruct the students on the up keep and maintenance of these important systems.

One of the biggest advantages of the new Thales facility is a "Mock Control Tower" situated within the classroom. This enables students to take their newly acquired theoretical concepts learnt in the classroom straight into a practical simulated environment.

The ADATS program was developed in conjunction with Raytheon Australia.
