FGS SACHSEN, At sea (NNS) -- Commander Carrier Strike Group (CCSG) 12, Rear Adm. Daniel Holloway, visited Federal German Ship (FGS) Sachsen (F 219), on March 8, to express appreciation to its crew.

The German frigate based in Wilhelmshaven, Germany, assisted USS Enterprise (CVN 65) during recent carrier qualification exercises.

Holloway toured Sachsen’s hangar, combat direction center, navigation bridge, weather decks, damage control central, berthing compartments and sick bay.

At the conclusion of the tour, Holloway was greeted by the ship’s officers in the wardroom, where he enjoyed coffee and cake. Holloway presented Cmdr. Hardy Hübener, Sachsen’s commanding officer, with pictures of Enterprise and Sachsen, and a plaque from CCSG 12. Hübener presented Holloway with a plaque from his ship.

Hübener expressed his honor with having Holloway aboard his ship, “I appreciate very much that this is his first visit after assuming command of the strike group.”

“I wanted to send a message from the beginning, about how strongly we rely on the coalition to form a very strong team,” said Holloway. “It sends a strong signal of why we are over there, regional stability and global security."

Sachsen, commissioned in 2004, is the newest member of NATO Standing Maritime Group 1 assisting Enterprise in training operations in the Atlantic Ocean.

“Sachsen’s mission was to integrate with our strike group, so when we meet that ship in our AOR (area of responsibility), we will be ready to have seamless integration and conduct major combat operations with coalition support,” said Holloway.
