EADS important participant in contract to supply command and control information system to German Army
- EADS to provide system software
- Bundeswehr network enhanced capabilities strengthened
Koblenz/Friedrichshafen, 20 February 2007
The Federal Office for Information Management and Information Technology of the German Armed Forces (IT-AmtBw) has placed an order with EADS for the delivery of the system software for the German Army's C3I system (FüInfoSys H). EADS is thus supplying the Bundeswehr with the core of this advanced digital command and control information system.
The system meets the land forces' mobile operations requirements and is optimized for their radio communications. An important element is the graphically displayed situational picture which is modified for the respective command levels. This information on one's own and enemy forces ensures a flexible and efficient command of national and multinational joint operations. The system is installed for operational use in mobile ground platforms, command vehicles and combat vehicles. Through tactical communications systems, users are interlinked over short, medium and long ranges.
The logistic infrastructure ensures availability in specific mission-essential system segments and serves to maintain and/or restore operational readiness.
"FüInfoSys H is a solution that fulfils the basic prerequisite in acquiring information superiority by providing state-of-the-art means of gathering, processing and displaying information," says Franz Peraus, Head of the Mission Systems & Solutions Line of Business at EADS Defence and Communications Systems. "The FüInfoSys H procurement decision underlines the German Army's need for modern command and control systems. We are honoured to be contributing to the field of network enhanced capabilities, in which we are an important systems supplier in the area of military IT.
FüInfoSys H has been designed for interoperability either – for example – in a network with the overall command and control information system of the German Armed Forces (FüInfoSys SK) or by being networked with Alliance partner systems. Its launch is a further capabilities demonstration of the German defence technology industry. Through this order, defence technology jobs, know-how and engineering skills will be secured in Germany.
The introduction of the first batch of FüInfoSys H represents an enormous step forward in the expansion and modernization of the equipment for the German Army's command posts and centres. Including the further contracts it is due to sign with the Federal Office of Defence Technology and Procurement (BWB) for the purchase of vehicles, the Bundeswehr will be investing hundreds of millions of euros alone in the command and control capabilities of its ground forces up to 2012.
EADS Defence and Communications Systems (DCS) is the “Systems House” of EADS and an integrated part of the EADS Defence & Security Systems Division (DS). DS is a system solution provider. It combines military air systems, missile systems, communications and intelligence systems, global security solutions as well as sensor and avionics systems into a single effective network. With 2005 revenues of € 5.6 billion, the Division employs 23,000. EADS is a global leader in aerospace, defence and related services. In 2005, EADS generated revenues of € 34.2 billion and employed a workforce of about 113,000.
