Greek military delegation arrives in Moscow for talks

RIA Novosti

06/02/2007 12:43 MOSCOW, February 6 (RIA Novosti) - A military delegation from Greece will arrive Tuesday in Moscow for a round of talks focused on bilateral cooperation, a senior Russian defense official said.

The Greek delegation, led by the commander of the 1st Army, will meet with a number of Russian army officials, including Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Army Alexei Maslov, and visit several military educational and research facilities.

Military-technical cooperation between Moscow and Athens began in 1993, and the countries signed an intergovernmental agreement in 1995. Russian military hardware has been regularly exhibited at the Greece's Defendory international land, air and sea arms shows.

According to some sources, Russia has supplied Greece with Tor-M1 (SA-15) anti-aircraft missile systems, Osa-AKM (SA-8) anti-aircraft missile batteries, and Zubr (Pomornik class) large amphibious landing craft.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov paid a two-day visit to Greece last December. He met with a series of officials to discuss military cooperation and the situation in the Balkans, particularly in Kosovo.
