
ATK Receives $330 Million in Orders for Small-Caliber Ammunition and the Modernization of the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant
ATK Will Produce 1.4 Billion Rounds in FY07
ATK Has Increased Military Small-Caliber Capacity to 1.6 Billion Rounds
MINNEAPOLIS, Jan. 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Alliant Techsystems (NYSE: ATK), the largest supplier of small-caliber ammunition to the United States military, has received an additional $284 million in orders for the production of small-caliber ammunition. In addition the company has received $46 million for plant modernization. These contracts were issued by the U.S. Army Sustainment Command, Rock Island, Ill.
ATK operates the U.S. Army's Lake City ammunition plant in Independence, Mo., where it produces a mix of 5.56mm, 7.62mm, .50-caliber and 20mm cartridges. ATK currently produces 1.4 billion rounds of small caliber ammunition per year at the plant, with capability to provide up to 1.6 billion rounds should that capacity be needed.
