Bomb blast strikes Baghdad patrol
Multi-National Division – Baghdad PAO
BAGHDAD – An improvised explosive device detonated near a Multi-National Division - Baghdad patrol, killing one Soldier in a northwestern section of the Iraqi capital Dec. 29.
The unit was conducting a combat security patrol when a roadside bomb exploded near them, killing one Soldier and wounding two others.
Earlier this month, the unit involved in this attack successfully found a large weapons cache after responding to a suspicious house in central Baghdad. The unit received small arms fire while establishing security around the house. The patrol cleared the house with one hand grenade killing an insurgent inside. Upon entering and searching the house, the unit found more than 3,000 7.62mm rounds of ammunition, 31 grenades, ten AK-47 rifles, six machine guns, approximately 200 mortar rounds, 20 107mm rockets and multiple improvised explosive devices.
The deceased Soldier’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
