DoD Announces Recruiting and Retention Numbers for November 2006

The Department of Defense announced today its recruiting and retention statistics for the active and reserve components for the month of November.

  • Active duty recruiting.  All services met or exceeded their recruiting goals for November.

Accessions Goal Percent
Army 6,485 6,150 105
Navy 2,887 2,887 100
Marine Corps 2,095 2,012 104
Air Force 1,877 1,877 100

  • Active duty retention.   The services are starting off well with the Army, Marine Corps and Air Force exceeding overall retention missions.  While Navy's numbers are below monthly goals, we are predicting it will meet its reenlistment goals for this fiscal year.
  • Reserve forces recruiting.  Four of the six reserve components met or exceeded their recruiting goals in November.

Accessions Goal Percent
Army National Guard 5,094 4,517 113%
Army Reserve 1,888 2,376 79%
Navy Reserve 687 755 91%
Marine Corps Reserve 547 535 102%
Air National Guard 752 655 115%
Air Force Reserve 436 434 100%

  • Reserve forces retention.  For November, Army National Guard retention was 137 percent of the cumulative goal of 4,336, and Air National Guard retention was 101 percent of its cumulative goal of 1,599. The Army and Air Guard are each currently at 99 percent of their end strength. Losses in all reserve components for October are well within acceptable limits.  Indications are that trend will continue into November.
