IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Islamabad, Dec 11, IRNA
Pakistan-Kashmir
Pakistan said on Monday it has not given up its position on Kashmir and stands by the resolutions passed by the UN Security Council to resolve the issue according to the aspirations of Kashmiri people.

President General Pervez Musharraf quoted last week by Indian NDTV as saying that Pakistan is ready to give up its claim over Kashmir if India reciprocates.

Foreign Office spokesperson Tasnim Aslam refuted remarks attributed to the President in the interview and said Pakistan has never claimed Kashmir to be its integral part.

But Pakistan fully supports the UN Security Council resolution to hold a plebiscite and allow Kashmiri people to decide about their future.

However, she said, Pakistan hopes that whenever Kashmiris were given the right through plebiscite they will opt for Pakistan.

She made it clear that even in this case government of Pakistan will negotiate with the Kashmiri people for future course as we respect their wishes and aspirations.

The spokesperson said President Pervez Musharraf in his interview has talked about flexibility on both sides to reach on a final settlement of the issue which is acceptable to all parties including India, Pakistan and above all the Kashmiris.

She said Pakistan has never changed its position on Kashmir and President never talked about unilateral flexibility but he has been talking flexibilities on the both sides and in case India shows flexibility also and the issue is resolved then it will be a new position on both the sides.
