India-Kashmir-Musharraf
Rejecting outright the four-point solution mooted by Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf on Kashmir, the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) Jammu Unit and Kashmiri Pandit Organizations on Wednesday urged the Center not to consider it.
"It is a peace offensive with an ideological thrust on undermining India's sovereignty ... and pave a way for another Partition," Panun Kashmir chairman Ajay Charangoo told reporters in Jammu on Wednesday.
Musharraf had said earlier this week his country would give up claim on Kashmir if India accepted his solution that included demilitarization and 'self-governance with joint supervision mechanism'.
Charangoo said there was nothing new in the proposal. 'Go back in history and you will see the same proposal being put forth by Musharraf' in an international conference in London a decade ago, he said.
He said Pakistan was trying to get India to withdraw troops and give up its claim on the state. "Musharraf is trying to tell the world that he is prepared to give India concessions on this front," he said.
All-Party Migrant Coordination Committee chairman Vindoo Pandit said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh 'should not even react to the proposal let alone hold discussions'.
All-State Kashmiri-Pandit Conference general secretary Hira Lal Chatta also rejected the proposal and said Kashmiri Pandits, Dogras, Ladakhis and Shia Muslims in the Valley wanted to live in India.
The state BJP termed Musharraf's proposal 'mischievous' and said 'we call upon the Center to not discuss it'.
It was a 'direct strike' on the country's sovereignty, state BJP president Ashok Khajuria said adding, "Pakistan's president should rather focus on setting his house in order."
He also criticized Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad for welcoming the proposal, saying it was 'most shameful' as New Delhi had already 'turned it down'.
"Not only has Azad contradicted his party's stand, he has also strengthened separatists and militants by this act," he said.
