EVERETT, Wash. (NNS) -- USS Rodney M. Davis (FFG 60) departed Naval Station (NAVSTA) Everett for a deployment to the Southern Pacific Nov. 28.

The Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate is scheduled to be away from her homeport approximately six months.

While waving goodbye under a clear blue sky and 20 degree icy winds, loved ones watched as the guided-missile frigate pulled away from the pier.

“It’s a little harder this time,” said the wife of Engineman 2nd Class Terence Lewis assigned to the Davis. “We just moved here from Hawaii and he has already been on deployment earlier this year, but I know it will be ok. I am already looking forward to getting the emails from him, and it will be nice to hear his voice when he is in port.”

Terence Lewis’s mother who was also present for the departure expressed how proud she was of her son. “I think it is cool myself. I am very proud of him, what mom wouldn’t be.”

Sailors aboard the Davis also shared their thoughts on what they expected from this deployment while keeping optimism foremost on their minds.

“This is my fourth one,” said Personnelman 1st Class Shaun Felides. “I am used to being out at sea and I know there are always good times with the bad. However, I am looking forward to some of our expected ports.”

“I am looking forward to it," said Chief Sonar Technician Surface Robert Foss. "I have already done two Western Pacific (PAC) deployments and one RIMPAC (Rim of the Pacific) deployment, so I am looking forward to this South PAC.”
