BAE SYSTEMS SUPPORTS MODERNIZATION OF MILITARY CARGO TRACKING APPLICATIONS
11-30-2006
MCLEAN, Va. – A BAE Systems-led team is supporting efforts to modernize the Armed Forces’ Cargo Movement Operation System (CMOS). Used to track the receipt and movement of cargo by the U.S. Army, Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corps, CMOS is a client server based application currently maintained by the Air Force’s 754th Electronics Systems Group. The outcome of the project, produced by BAE Systems and teammates Ingenium Corporation and ResQSoft, will be a modernized, web-enabled version of CMOS that reduces maintenance costs to the Air Force and provides a more effective and accessible cargo tracking application to the joint logistics and transportation arena.
“The ultimate goal is to modernize and Web-enable the existing application,” said Eli Hertz, BAE Systems’ senior program manager. “In the end, the application will be less expensive to maintain, permit easier and more affordable upgrades, provide browser-based access to any user on the network, and establish the foundation for integration to the Global Combat Support System - Air Force framework.”
Transforming to a multi-tier involves modernizing the existing legacy application to a Web enabled version with the application logic distributed to several logical tiers in accordance with Java 2 Enterprise Edition standards. Architecture will be facilitated, in part, by BAE Systems’ Rapid and Predictable Development/Reengineering for Software offering – a family of capabilities that Hertz said provides the Government with technology upgrades of existing legacy applications. “We will be utilizing state-of-the-art technology from our partner, ResQSoft, to automate and expedite transformation of the existing application,” said Hertz. “Most importantly, this will be done at significantly lower cost and lower risk to the Government.”
The work is projected to be completed in October 2007.
