USS MCINERNEY, At Sea (NNS) -- USS McInerney (FFG 8) hosted an impressive delegation from the Colombian navy during a port visit to Cartagena Oct. 30.

The ship’s visit to Colombia was a scheduled port call, but also provided the opportunity to support theater security cooperation (TSC), which fosters military-to-military contact with maritime forces in Central and South America.

“This visit was important to further our understanding of operations in the region,” said McInerney’s Commanding Officer, Cmdr. Patrick Holub. “We had the opportunity to meet key leaders in the Colombian navy and discuss how we can work together to support counter-narco terrorism (CNT). Even more, the crew has worked especially hard and was able to enjoy a bit of this beautiful country.”

The guests included Colombian Commander, Surface Forces Caribbean, Commanding Officer of ARC Independiente, Executive Officer of ARC Antioquia, and others.

McInerney officers shared their thoughts on operational challenges with their Colombian guests. They discussed new strategies, the current state of day-to-day patrols, and the difficulties that surround having a successful operation. Both wardrooms pledged to work together and continue the fight on the war on drugs.

Chief Operations Specialist (SW) David Tola and Chief Fire Controlman (SW) Cory Curtis demonstrated a simulated weapons firing in the Combat Information Center, while Ensign Jeremy Biggs, Chief Warrant Officer Trevor Muhammad and Chief Boatswain’s Mate (SW) Joseph Green visited Antioquia to participate in underway replenishment training.

Continuing on with the deployment’s schedule, McInerney successfully transited the Panama Canal in early November. Now scouring the Pacific, McInerney will apply lessons from the Colombian navy and their own personal experiences to continue their CNT mission.

McInerney is deployed in the region under operational control of U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command (NAVSO).
