MANAMA, Bahrain (NNS) -- A Navy Exchange (NEX) Depot is scheduled to open its doors at Naval Support Activity (NSA) Bahrain, Nov. 15.

The depot replaces the Tip of the Spear Mart (TOSMART), which had been the main supplier of consumable goods for personnel assigned to the base and its 76 tenant commands, as well as forward deployed and visiting naval and Coast Guard vessels.

The NEX Depot will now cater to all these organizations, as well as to anyone on the base with NEX shopping privileges.

“Having the NEX Depot here will be like having an Office Depot on base,” said NSA Bahrain’s NEX Depot Manager Vickie Mackey, referring to the well-known chain of stores that sell office products and services.

“Customers can expect to find 10 to 15 percent savings on key items within various departments,” said Cheryl Paseka, an assistant buyer for NEX Depots.

According to Paseka, purchasing commands or deployed ships can access NEX Depot’s online catalog at www.navy-nex.com. Users can then submit their orders by e-mail to nex_bahrain-dep@nexnet.navy.mil. The depot will process this request and notify the customer when it’s ready for pick up.

Paseka said the online service is most beneficial to ships that are ready to deploy and need to stock up prior to their departure, but it’s also great for a ship on its way home that needs to replenish its supplies.

“My main goal is to make sure all the commands on base have everything they need to function,” said Mackey. She also said she’s willing to work with base commands to meet any special orders they have.

The NSA Bahrain NEX Depot’s scheduled hours are Sunday through Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. This is the seventh NEX Depot to open Navywide.
