
General Dynamics Awarded $6 Million Contract for Ordnance Disposal Systems

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The NAVSEA Indian Head Division, Indian Head, Md., has awarded General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems, a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), a $6.1 million contract for production of Disposable Fire Sets (DFS) for use by Joint Services explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) personnel in combat operations.
General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems will produce 9,000 disposable wireless initiators and 400 encrypted transmitters for safe, secure initiation of explosives and explosively-driven EOD tools. The DFS provides an additional tool to support U.S. Armed Forces in defeating improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and clearing unexploded ordnance.
This contract is funded by the Joint IED Defeat Organization (JIEDDO) and administered by the U.S. Navy EOD Technology Division, which is responsible for development and acquisition of EOD equipment for Joint Services operations. General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems has successfully completed first-article testing, with initial fielding scheduled to begin in early 2007.
