US and Afghan soldiers pulled out of an area in eastern Afghanistan under a deal clinched with tribal elders, a second in a week, a Taliban spokesman said on Sunday.
American soldiers and troops of their puppet government quit Tana area in Ali Sher district of Khost province last night upon the mediation of tribal elders, Taliban spokesman Dr Mohammad Hanif said.
This is a major victory for the resistance forces against their aggressors and the latter's puppets, Hanif said.
He said the deal is similar to the one clinched in Musa Qila district of Helmand province under which British troops pulled out of the district on October 17.
There was no immediate word from US-led allies over the deal.
Hanif said that tribal elders would be responsible for the security of Babrak Tana.
Afghan President Hamid Karzai had supported the agreement which led to the British troops' withdrawal from Helmand province's Musa Qila.
The British Defense Ministry said the pullout did not represent a setback and that British forces would retain a presence in nearby districts.
