BAE SYSTEMS AWARDED $20.6 MILLION CONTRACT TO CONTINUE PROVIDING COMMUNICATIONS-ELECTRONICS LIFE CYCLE SUPPORT
17 Oct 2006
ROCKVILLE, Md. - BAE Systems has been awarded a technical and professional support services contract by the U.S. Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) to continue providing communications-electronics life cycle support to the Navy and other government agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security. The value of the one-year contract is $20.6 million. The total value of the contract could reach approximately $109 million over five years if all options are exercised.
Under the contract, BAE Systems will continue to support NAVAIR’s Special Communications Requirements (SCR) Division in providing maintenance, training, system upgrades, and other sustainment support for special purpose communications-electronic systems. The contract will be managed from BAE Systems’ facilities in St. Mary’s County, Maryland. Most of the work is performed at more than a dozen field technical units that BAE Systems staffs throughout the U.S. and overseas. BAE Systems staffs the field technical units, which are located near key NAVAIR sponsors, with veteran field engineers, electronics technicians, trainers, and logistics specialists who provide customized support to end users. BAE Systems employees also provide on-site site support to U.S. forces in Iraq and Afghanistan.
"BAE Systems helped NAVAIR establish the field technical unit concept more than 15 years ago," said Doug Belair, president, BAE Systems Technology Solutions & Services. "The systems we support under this contract are vital to ensuring that our warfighters, first responders, and those protecting our borders can effectively communicate. They need local, responsive, and affordable support, which we can provide through the NAVAIR SCR field technical units."
Work has already transitioned to the new contract to ensure seamless continued support
