NAS NORTH ISLAND, Calif. (NNS) -- The “BattleCats” of Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Light (HSL) 43 capped off a year that included more than 3,500 mishap-free flight hours by receiving the 2005 Sikorsky “Most Improved Maintenance” award Aug. 21.

The award recognizes superior performance in maintaining and supporting Sikorsky helicopters.

“The people who build these helicopters are proud of their work, but they are even prouder of the work you have done maintaining them, keeping them flying, and allowing us to sleep safely at night,” said Sikorsky representative, Greg Hoffman, during the ceremony.

Especially proud was Aviation Electrician’s Mate Airman Brendon Henry, who accepted the award for the squadron. He said he is honored to be a part of the ceremony and is proud of what the award means.

“It shows that dedication and hard work is an everyday occurrence at HSL-43,” said Henry. “The officers and enlisted members of this squadron have sacrificed many man-hours to maintain these machines.”

Along with HSL-43’s devotion to maintaining helicopters, the award shows that through teamwork, they can accomplish many things.

“The pride and professionalism of the BattleCat maintenance team is validated with receipt of this prestigious award,” said Master Chief Avionics Technician Ken Borchik, the maintenance department leading chief petty officer. “It is a testament to the mettle the BattleCat team can provide. Whether in combat operations in the global war on terrorism or urban rescue operations in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, these proud warriors truly reflected what is best in naval aviation maintenance.”
