Thales launches revolutionary personal counter IED device

10 October 2006

No bigger than many personal radio systems, it can be worn in a pouch or pocket, or clipped to webbing.

This device has the advantage of allowing users to move away from the restricted field of operation immediately surrounding an ECM vehicle or the ECM member of a foot patrol. The individual is now able to move freely, taking their IED protection with them.

International terrorism is currently recognised as one of the greatest threats to stability and peace across the world. In particular, the increasing use of Radio Controlled Improvised Explosive Devices (RCIEDs) such as roadside bombs has stimulated the need for sophisticated force protection systems for personnel on the ground, to provide greater confidence in both personal safety and the success of any mission.

Designed for use by military patrols (particularly dismounted in urban environments) and for VIP protection, it is equally suited to the protection of mobile and fixed assets, such as military vehicles, conference venues, hotel rooms, civil building protection, public service vehicles and organised events.

The unit can address multiple simultaneous threats across a wide frequency range. The units are fully programmable for mission profiling and maximum operational flexibility while offering unique interoperability with conventional communications and other ECM equipment.

Thales is recognised as a key provider of specialist force protection equipment providing the necessary capability to meet these new challenges. Our centre of excellence in advanced radio technologies continuously expands the boundaries of force protection and ECM capabilities for a wide spectrum of operational scenarios.
