BAE SYSTEMS AWARDED $450 MILLION CONTRACT TO PROVIDE SUSTAINMENT SERVICES FOR U.S. NAVY AIRCRAFT
10 Oct 2006
ROCKVILLE, Md. - BAE Systems has received a $450 million omnibus contract from the U.S. Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) to provide performance based solutions to reengineer and remanufacture obsolete aircraft parts for the United States Navy and other Government agencies.
BAE Systems will team with NAVAIR’s Aging Aircraft Integrated Product Team (AAIPT) to provide affordable and responsive support to fleet users. The FastTrack program optimizes the military’s aging aircraft by flexibly and quickly providing solutions to sustain the Department’s aging legacy aircraft fleet. Aging Aircraft issues are particularly challenging because often, the original manufacturers for the parts no longer exist.
BAE Systems has forged agreements with the country’s largest aircraft manufacturers to support engineering and certification efforts. The relationships bring needed performance in reverse engineering, obsolescence management, and materials analysis. The BAE Systems-led team also brings more than 20 small businesses to the effort.
“BAE systems is committed to providing the U.S. Navy with world class service and credible sustainment alternatives for aging aircraft," said Doug Belair, president, BAE Systems Technology Solutions & Services. “The technical depth and breadth of our corporation and our teammates offer the Navy solutions that are low risk, affordable, and sensitive to the demanding schedules required for the AAIPT to execute its mission.”
Work on the new contract will begin immediately and will be performed by members of the BAE Systems-led team throughout the world, near the customer, with program oversight in St. Mary’s County, Maryland.
