Russia, Japan conduct naval exercise off Japanese coast
06/10/2006 10:08 VLADIVOSTOK, October 6 (RIA Novosti) - Russian and Japanese naval vessels conducted a joint exercise Friday near the Japanese port of Maidzuru, the Russian Pacific Fleet press service said.
Warships of the Japanese Self-Defense Forces, two Pacific Fleet warships and one diesel submarine took part in a communications and maneuvering exercise.
"During the maneuver, servicemen of both countries demonstrated good teamwork in establishing communications using international frequencies, carried out commands and demonstrated exceptional skill," a Fleet press spokesman said. "Such exercises provide essential experience for joint international rescue and counterterrorism operations."
