BAE SYSTEMS AWARDED $40.7 MILLION CONTRACT FOR TRANSPARENT ARMORED GUN SHIELDS FOR U.S. MARINE CORPS

06 Oct 2006

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - BAE Systems has been awarded a $40.7 million contract to deliver 1,964 Marine Corps Transparent Armored Gun Shield (MCTAGS) turret kits and spares for the U.S. Marine Corps.

Under the contract, BAE Systems will deliver 1,864 MCTAGS turret kits for High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWV), 95 kits for Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement units, and five kits for the M88 recovery vehicle, in addition to spares. Deliveries will continue through July 2007.

The new order is in addition to a contract awarded in September 2005, in which the Marine Corps purchased more than 1,900 kits.

"We are pleased that the Marine Corps is confident in the capability the MCTAGS provides to Marines," said Paul Para, BAE Systems' program manager. "We continue to receive feedback that our transparent armor gun shields are saving lives."

BAE Systems' TAGS units have been configured for a wide range of vehicles, including Bradley, M1 Abrams, M113, HMMWV, and for the Stryker Common Ballistic Shield. TAGS units are particularly effective in close-combat urban environments.
