ORANJESTAD, Aruba (NNS) -- USS John L. Hall (FFG 32) hosted a reception for local dignitaries here in mid-September while deployed for U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command (NAVSO) on a counter-narcotics trafficking (CNT) operation.

Operating in the eastern Pacific and western Caribbean for its CNT mission, the ship also conducted a variety of theater security cooperations (TSC), like this reception. A key priority for U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM), the regional combatant commander, TSC is focused on fostering military-to-military contact with regional maritime forces.

“The reception helped to build and strengthen friendships with the people of Aruba,” said the ship’s Commanding Officer, Cmdr. Dave A. Geisler. “Events like this let us show that our capabilities are not limited to missions at sea: we are ashore supporting SOUTHCOM and NAVSO priorities with partner nations, and our Sailors are serving as wonderful ambassadors.”

With visitors including Aruba Minister of Customs in Oranjestad, Mirto Cornelis; Honorable Consul of Columbia, Ricardo Emilio Cifuentes Ordoñez; Oranjestad Police Chief Ronie Paskel, and many other local business leaders, the reception was very successful for reaching out in the region and enhancing relationships.

Ens. Katie Daniels said the visit was a great way for Sailors to mingle with members of the community.

“The reception was a wonderful way for Arubans to interact with Sailors," she said. "This was a great opportunity for us to show off the ship and meet some wonderful people.”
