Reset of Army's HEMTT fleet advances at Red River

By Red River Army Depot Public Affairs

TEXARKANA, Texas (Army News Service, Oct. 2, 2006) – Efforts to remanufacture and upgarade the Army’s Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck fleet at Red River Army Depot are advancing.

Through an agreement with the RRAP, Oshkosh Truck Corporation will continue reset of the HEMTTs at RRAD's facilties in Texarkana. Oshkosh is the original manufacturer of the Army’s HEMTT fleet.

“This agreement between Red River and Oshkosh is a very rewarding partnership for the warfighter,” said Col. Douglas J. Evans, depot commander. “Together we will draw on the strengths of both organizations and provide a high-quality vehicle that serves well in the field.”

The Army’s reset program restores units and their equipment to a desired level of combat capability commensurate with mission requirements and availability of resources. Reset enables the Army to position itself to meet current and future needs.

Known as the Army’s Center of Industrial and Technical Excellence, RRAD is responsible for rebuilding such light-tracked vehicles as the M2 Bradley. Remanufacturing of the HEMTT has been an ongoing project at RRAD since mid 2001.

To date, the scope of the work performed at RRAD has been classified as recapitalization, which carries the vehicle to a zero miles - zero hours status. The new agreement will bring about the addition of reset work on the HEMTT to Red River.

Oshkosh is a leading designer, manufacturer and marketer of a broad range of specialty commercial, fire and emergency and military trucks and truck bodies.
