
U.S. Army Awards General Dynamics $14 Million for 20mm PGU-28 A/B SAPHEI Ammunition Production
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The U.S. Army Sustainment Command, Rock Island, Ill., has awarded General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems a $13.7M modification to a firm-fixed-price contract for the production of 20mm PGU-28A/B SAPHEI tactical cartridges. General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems is a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD).
The tactical PGU-28 A/B SAPHEI is a safe and reliable round that provides superior performance and lethality to U.S. Navy F-14, F-18 and AH-1 Cobra pilots. The multi-purpose design gives the PGU-28 A/B the capability to defeat the full spectrum of targets in air-to-air and air-to-ground roles.
General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems is the sole producer of the PGU-28 A/B, and to date the U.S. Navy has ordered over four million cartridges. Work will be performed at the company’s Marion, Ill., facility and is expected to complete July 31, 2008.
