EADS North America Defense Test and Services Launches New N-GENT Test System
San Antonio, Texas, 29 September 2006
EADS North America Defense Test and Services unveiled the new N-GEN™ Test System at AUTOTESTCON 2006 in Anaheim, CA. The new instrument-independent test system can test any engine. It provides automated data capture, customizable Graphical User Interface (GUI), and an open support structure. It is part of the new N-GEN Series products which includes the test system, a throttle control system (available now) and a portable maintenance device (available soon).
Capitalizing on the success of our first generation shaft and jet engine testers, the N-GEN test solution uses commercial standards and design techniques t make it instrument-independent addressing the growing concern about obsolescence and legacy management issues for both the hardware and software. There is a “neutral zone” between the instrument hardware and software using the IsolATE™ architecture. Test Program Sets (TPS’s) do not need to be rewritten when instruments are replaced or upgraded.
EADS North America Defense Test and Services has designed the tester so that customer-provided, engine-specific, proprietary performance data can remain secure. The secure, encapsulated software block is translated into the N-GEN test system and is mapped directly to the test system resources, protecting its integrity.
Because there are certain predefined test sequences within the engine test market, the user configurable interface is both fixed and flexible. The User can pre-select certain tests, and/or select additional test parameters, or even actively define new test screens and store them for future activities in the test cell.
“Because of the experience we gained working under the U.S. Navy JETI and SETI contracts, we understand how important providing an open support structure is. Obviously, we do offer a variety of support plans for the N-GEN test system, but if the customer’s test requirements change, he has the option to select to update the system using internal or external resources; they are not locked into a proprietary situation,” stated Jim Mulato, Executive Vice President. ”This Next Generation engine test system continues to reflect our philosophy of incorporating commercial off-the-shelf hardware and software into a cost-effective test system that is easy-to-operate, is upgradeable, scalable, and maintainable.”
