BAE SYSTEMS TO OVERHAUL USNS RANIER

SAN FRANCISCO -- BAE Systems has been awarded a $6.7 million firm-fixed price contract for the overhaul and drydocking of the USNS Rainier, the Military Sealift Fleet Support Command’s fast combat support ship. The total value of the contract could reach $8.9 million, if all options are exercised.
The vessel arrived at the company's San Francisco shipyard on September 11 for a three month overhaul. The major dry dock and overhaul package includes main propulsion shafting, preservation of the hull and freeboard and overhauling of sea valves.
“This competitive award demonstrates Military Sealift Command’s continued confidence in our San Francisco yard’s ability to perform a wide range of critical work on cost and on schedule, delivering only the best services to the ships that support the Navy’s operating forces around the world,” said Al Krekich, president, BAE Systems Ship Repair.
USNS Rainier is one of four fast combat support ships in Military Sealift Fleet Support Command, which provides ocean transportation of equipment, fuel, supplies and ammunition to sustain U.S. forces worldwide during peacetime and in war.
