The principal officer at the US Consulate, Lahore, Bryan David Hunt, said the US was not, in any way, involved in the incidents occurring in Baluchistan.

According to the Pakistani newspaper The News, Hunt termed the killing of Nawab Bugti an internal affair of Pakistan, and said, it was the responsibility of the government to settle matters in the province.

To a question on Kashmir, he said, the US had always desired an amicable settlement of the dispute between Pakistan and India and assisted in negotiations between leaders of both countries.

Basically, it is a matter of mutual settlement between the two countries, he said.

He said Pakistan was a friendly countries and plays a pivotal role in countering terrorism.

Hunt said his country did not prefer India over Pakistan in commerce and defense.

The US nuclear pact with India is not against Pakistan, he said adding that, the US had recently lifted the ban on supply of F-16s and other sophisticated weapons to Pakistan.

Regarding travelers to the US, he said, no extra formalities had been included in the visa procedure.
