Pakistan signs peace accord with N Waziristan militants

Pakistani militants and the government on Tuesday signed a peace agreement to end the bloody conflict in the country's restive North Waziristan tribal region.

A Jirga or council of tribal elders, local administration and the local militants inked the agreement at Miransha, the headquarters of North Waziristan.

According to the agreement, the elders of North Waziristan, local Mujahideen, students and ulema would ensure that they would not attack or harm the properties of law enforcing forces and only the writ of government would be implemented in the area.

The agreement further said that the political administration would be contacted for the resolution of any problem and all the grievances would be addressed according to the tradition and tribal region laws, known as Frontier Crimes Regulations (FCR).

Similarly, there would be no movement to Afghanistan for military activities, however it was cleared that there would be no ban to visit Afghanistan for business or meeting the relatives.

Likewise, it was also agreed in the pact that all foreigners would leave the area.

However those who could not go to their respective countries due to some problem they would remain peaceful and would obey the rule of the land.

According to the agreement, all the detainees the government arrested during the operations would be released and they would not be re-arrested for past cases.

The government would restore all the facilities and all the new check-posts would be abolished and Khasadar would be deployed on the old check-posts.

The government would stop all kinds of operations and would also compensate the losses of innocent lives.

According to tribal tradition, there would be no ban on display of weapons, however, the ban on display of big weapons would continue.

Both the parties agreed to constitute a 10-member committee comprising ulema, elders and the workers of political administration.

The committee would work like a bridge between the two parties and would ensure the implementation of the peace pact.

The committee would also take action against those who tried to create law and order situation in the agency or violated the agreement.
