Nepal-Ukraine-Arms
A cabinet minister said that the Nepal government had no idea regarding Nepal-bound arms from Ukraine having been intercepted in India.
"It is not only me, even the government is unaware of this issue," said Finance Minister Ram Sharan Mahat as he addressed a program organized by Palpa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Kantipur reported from Palpa.
He said it was only through media reports that he learned of an arms-carrying airplane stranded at Ahmedabad in India.
Mahat said he had come to learn about the arms deal made by the erstwhile royal government last year.
The government is carrying out investigations as to how the weapons were brought to India, he added, and maintained the newly formed democratic government did not make any arms deal.
Minister Mahat said that the government would send the weapons back if they were indeed on their way to Nepal.
"Even if they are to be brought in, they could be stored and not used against the people," he added.
