SAIC Acquires Applied Ordnance Technology

(SAN DIEGO and MCLEAN, VA) 08/28/06 -- Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) announced today that it has completed the acquisition of Applied Ordnance Technology (AOT). Based in Waldorf, Md., AOT is a leading innovator in the defense community for technical products and services in the areas of ordnance and weapons systems engineering and design, acquisition and logistics, systems safety, environmental engineering, IT solutions and knowledge-based applications.

With representatives in northern Virginia, southern Maryland, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, AOT has worked closely with various DoD customers for over 20 years. Founded in 1984, AOT expanded its initial products and services and now has more than 165 employees providing technical expertise to the military and other federal government agencies. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

“The merger of AOT with SAIC will allow us to leverage additional capabilities for all of our customers,” said George Wilson, vice president and co-founder of AOT. “We are pleased to become part of the SAIC team and look forward to providing ordnance technology and engineering expertise that can be beneficial to our mutual customers.”

The company's employees will transition into SAIC's Naval Maritime Solutions (NAMS) Business Unit within the System and Network Solutions Group (SNSG). They will continue to operate from their present locations in support of current customers as the integration moves forward.

“We're very pleased about this acquisition. Combining the in-depth ordnance engineering capabilities of AOT with the technical resources of SAIC provides a winning combination for our customers,” said Thomas Baybrook, SAIC senior vice president and general manager of the Naval Maritime Solutions Business Unit. “We look forward to increasing our ability to bring innovative solutions to our customers.”

“The employees and leadership of AOT will be a welcome addition to our team of technology leaders,” said Deb Alderson, president of SAIC's Systems and Network Solutions Group. “The unique skill sets they bring will enhance our group's ability to meet the many challenges our customers face.”
