Arab Foreign Ministers Discuss Lebanon Aid
20 August 2006
Arab foreign ministers met Sunday in Egypt to plan for the reconstruction of Lebanon following Israel's bombing of the country.
The meeting was their first since last week's ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah. Ministers discussed calling an Arab League summit on Lebanon and sending a delegation to the United Nations to urge a resumption of the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.
Before the talks started, Kuwait's representative said his country would give $800 million toward rebuilding Lebanon.
At least 17 foreign ministers from Arab League member nations attended. Among those absent was the foreign minister of Syria - a key backer of Hezbollah.
