U.S. Army Awards General Dynamics $38 Million for Combat Vehicle Services
STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – The U.S. Army TACOM Lifecycle Management Command has awarded General Dynamics Land Systems, a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), a $38 million contract for contractor logistics support on the Stryker combat vehicle. Vehicle support, resets and upgrades are a continuing portion of General Dynamics’ combat systems-related business.
“Obviously, General Casey felt that the [172nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team] would be the best unit to extend based on the experience of its soldiers, the capabilities, the equipment, the mobility, and the protection that a unit that’s equipped with Strykers has. And, what you are seeing is a flexible and adaptable force based on those changing dynamic conditions that are now being addressed by the application of additional Iraqi and U.S. forces,” said Bryan Whitman, deputy assistant secretary of defense for public affairs, in a Pentagon news conference addressing the unit’s deployment to Baghdad.
This award funds additional contractor logistics support, including: ordering spare parts, managing a spare-parts warehouse, worldwide distribution of repair parts and completing maintenance services on the 172nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team fleet. Work will be performed by existing General Dynamics’ employees in Fort Lewis, Wash.; Fort Wainwright, Alaska; Iraq; Kuwait; London, Ontario; Sterling Heights, Mich.; and Vilseck, Germany. Work is expected to be complete by December 15, 2006.
General Dynamics, headquartered in Falls Church, Virginia, employs approximately 81,900 people worldwide and had 2005 revenue of $21.2 billion. The company is a market leader in mission-critical information systems and technologies; land and expeditionary combat systems, armaments and munitions; shipbuilding and marine systems; and business aviation.
