Pakistan-Indian PM remarks
Pakistan has rejected Indian prime minister's remarks on cross-border terrorism, saying that it is a frontline state in the war against terror.
Indian Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh in his Independence Day speech on Tuesday said that Pakistan had to take steps against cross-border terrorism or the Indo-Pak peace process would lose popular support.
Asked to comment on the Indian prime minister's statement on the issue, Foreign Office spokesperson Tasnim Aslam said Pakistan is committed to fighting terrorism and continuing peace process with India.
It is obvious that unless Pakistan takes concrete steps to implement the solemn assurances it has given to prevent cross-border terrorism, public opinion in India, which has supported the peace process, will be undermined," Singh said.
The Pakistani spokesperson in her reaction said that the peace process requires sincerity and commitment by both sides to resolve all issues and disputes that have caused conflicts and tension in the region.
It would be very very unfortunate to allow terrorism to undermine this process, she said.
The spokesperson said Pakistan has a long history of commitment in cooperating with the international community but this happens when there is trust in each other.
Pakistan cannot cooperate with any country, which is in the habit of making baseless allegations and a history of not cooperating with it, she said.
She categorically stated that Pakistan has not received any evidence of involvement in any terrorist act in India.
When asked to comment on statements of some the Indian opposition BJP leaders about hot pursuit, she said no saner element can think of such a recourse which has its serious consequences.
Pakistan has a strong defense.
