SAIC Awarded Navy Technical Assistance for Repairables Processing Contract

(SAN DIEGO and MCLEAN, VA) 08/14/06 -- Science Applic 5A8 ations International Corporation (SAIC) announced today that it has been awarded a $5,186,546 cost-plus-fixed-fee contract for Technical Assistance for Repairables Processing (TARP) program services. The contract with the Naval Inventory Control Point (NAVICP) in Philadelphia, Pa., has three one-year option periods which, if exercised, will bring the total estimated value of the contract to $20,394,322.

Services will be performed in various locations in the continental U.S. and locations outside the U.S. The work under the base period of the contract is expected to be completed by August 2007. The contract was awarded competitively through Navy electronic commerce online.

“We are pleased to continue our collaboration with the U.S. Navy on improving reverse logistics and packaging of depot-level repairables,” said Jim Cuff, SAIC senior vice president and general manager of the Logistics and Engineering Solutions Business Unit. “The team is committed to continuing the support for combat operations for U.S. forces throughout the Middle East, humanitarian relief operations such as Hurricane Katrina, shipboard deployment operations, and training to prepare units to execute their mission.”

TARP is the premier program for improvement of retrograde material processing in the U.S. Navy an 5A8 d the Marine Corps. For the past six years, SAIC has worked closely with both services to improve the retrograde pipeline. SAIC has developed retrograde solutions to problems caused by mishandling of material, loss of retrograde during shipment, receipt of wrong materials, and material packaged improperly to the point that damage during shipment rendered the retrograde material beyond economical repair.
