ATK Receives $6 Million Order for AIM-9X Propulsion Systems

ATK Propulsion Systems Provide Enhanced Maneuverability for Short-Range AIM-9X Sidewinder Missile

MINNEAPOLIS, Aug. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Alliant Techsystems (NYSE: ATK) has received $6 million in follow-on contracts from prime contractor Raytheon (NYSE: RTN) to continue manufacturing propulsion steering sections (PSS) for the AIM-9X Sidewinder missile. The contract is for production of Lot 6.

ATK is the sole source supplier of propulsion steering sections for the AIM-9X missile and has manufactured more than 1200 since 2002. The propulsion steering section includes ATK's solid propellant rocket motor and integrated aerofin thrust vector control (IA/TVC) system. Production of the AIM-9X propulsion steering sections will occur at ATK's manufacturing center of excellence in Rocket Center, West Virginia. Final deliveries are expected by March 2008.

AIM-9X is a launch and leave, air combat missile that uses passive infrared (IR) energy for acquisition and tracking, which can be employed in near beyond visual range (NBVR) and within visual range (WVR) arenas. It is the latest member of the AIM-9 Sidewinder short-range missile family currently in use by more than 40 nations around the world. It is a joint U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force program and was approved for full rate production in May 2004.
