MOSCOW, August 4 (RIA Novosti) - Lebanon expects Israel to stop attacks on the country next week, the leader of the Lebanese parliamentary majority said Friday.

Saad Hariri told Russian Security Council Secretary Igor Ivanov that he hoped the countries involved in the Middle East peace process would convince Israel to call a ceasefire.

Hariri said Lebanon demanded immediate ceasefire, adding that the UN was currently drafting a resolution that could help resolve the problem.

Ivanov, a former foreign minister, said "Russia would back efforts of the Lebanese authorities aimed to stop military operations."

"We have reached complete understanding on the need to stop military operations immediately and launch a political dialogue on resolving the conflict," Ivanov said.

He also said Russia was involved in drafting the UN resolution and was ready to help Lebanon restore the country and resolve other humanitarian problems.
