
Blue Blasters Return from Western Pacific Deployment

NORFOLK, Va. (NNS) -- The “Blue Blasters” of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 34 will return to Naval Air Station Oceana Aug. 5, after completing a 5-month deployment to the Western Pacific.
The squadron was assigned to Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 2 aboard the Everett, Wash.-based aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72).
While deployed, the Blue Blasters participated in three major exercises and completed more than 1,200 sorties while compiling over 2,000 flight hours.
The squadron departed in March after completing a combat deployment aboard the Mayport, Fla.-based USS John F. Kennedy (CV 67) in December 2004, a turnaround time of 15 months.
While deployed, VFA-34 visited ports in Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, Japan and Hawaii.
