General Dynamics Information Technology to Support the U.S. Navy Submarine Communications Information and C4I Systems Division

FAIRFAX, Va. – The U.S. Navy Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center San Diego (SSC San Diego) Code 283 has selected General Dynamics Information Technology, a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), to provide research, development, and test and evaluation services for its Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence (C4I) engineering support division. The total potential value of the contract if all options are exercised is $21.4 million over a five-year period of performance.

“This contract affords General Dynamics a new opportunity to provide all aspects of C4I systems engineering services to SSC San Diego for submarine communications support,” said Ken Slaght, senior vice president of General Dynamics Information Technology. “We are proud to expand our work within the U.S. Navy in support of its mission-critical programs.”

Under this contract, General Dynamics will support the SSC San Diego Submarine Communications Information and C4I Systems Division – providing comprehensive planning, direction, research, development, test and evaluation (RDT&E) in submarine communications, satellite communications, information technology and strategic communications efforts. Additionally, to assist the division in meeting overall mission responsibilities, General Dynamics will provide management support for RDT&E activities.

SSC San Diego is one of five field activities of Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR). SPAWAR and its systems centers provide much of the tactical and non-tactical information management technology required by the Navy to complete its operational missions. SSC San Diego provides the U.S. Navy with research, development, and test and evaluation, engineering and fleet support for command, control and communication systems and ocean surveillance. SSC San Diego provides information resources to support the joint warfighter in mission execution and force protection.

The contract was awarded in the name of Anteon, which was acquired by General Dynamics in June 2006.
