Thales selected to provide LINK 16 Network Management System in Denmark
18 July 2006
Thales UK has been selected to provide the initial Link 16 Network Monitoring & Management System (NMMS) for Denmark.
The Link 16 Network Management System will enable the Royal Danish Air Force (RDAF) to fully exploit the recently fitted Link 16 equipment through the introduction of an effective ground Link 16 infrastructure that can plan, monitor and manage the optimum network for the RDAF and other national and coalition Link 16 participants. In the future it will also enable the armed forces to train more efficiently with the appropriate Link 16 data exchange and stimulation from a ground C2 systems.
The Thales UK solution provides the RDAF a mature, well-proven, functionally-rich solution that fully satisfies the range and complexity of demands for a distributed system. The flexibility of the system to develop a range of Link 16 network plans ensures the minute-to-minute efficiency of the data link capacity, and the ability to repair or re-construct network assignments in real-time to maintain the robustness of data link operations. Furthermore, the NMMS is based upon the data link management software that Thales is providing to the NATO Air Command & Control System (ACCS); this provides not only a vital immediate capability but also a logical investment roadmap to the future introduction of the NATO-funded network management standard as part of the NATO ACCS system.
Steve Hill, Managing Director of Thales UK's air systems business said, "Through this programme, ACCS and other European successes, Thales has set the standard for data link management tools which are ready, flexible and have adaptable capability to satisfy the emerging requirements of all nations that are currently embarking upon the introduction of modern NATO Tactical Data Links. The Denmark decision to work with Thales is clear recognition of the substantial investment we have devoted to Tactical Data Link systems and it further underlines our position as the leading European supplier of data link systems and services."
