The German army has completed the transfer of its main troop contingent for the Congo peacekeeping mission ahead of the July 30 general elections in the African country, DPA reported.
Some 140 German soldiers departed Tuesday morning for Kinshasa from the military airport at Cologne/Wahn.
All 780 German troops who are stationed in the Congolese capital and neighboring Gabon are almost complete, a spokesman of the military mission announced in the east German city of Potsdam.
A major army contingent will be based in Gabon's capital Libreville.
German soldiers will serve as part of a 2,000-man European Union peacekeeping force which will back a 17,000-member UN troop contingent.
The four-month mandate will begin on July 30 which coincides also with the Congo election date.
