Asefi rejects claim on dispatch of missiles to Hizbullah by Iran

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, July 16, IRNA
Iran-Asefi-Hizbullah
Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi here Sunday dismissed the claim that Iran has dispatched missiles for Lebanon's Hizbullah.

Speaking to domestic and foreign reporters at this week's briefing session, in response to a question about the claim on cooperation of Iranian forces with the Lebanese resistance brigades, he dismissed the claim.

The Foreign Ministry spokesman said that Lebanon's Hizbullah itself is quite capable.

In response to another question about the claim that Iran has supplied Hizbullah with missiles, he said, "The Zionist regime has been caught in the quagmire it has created. That is why they attempt to involve others in the case."
Concerning the claim that Iran has ordered Lebanon's Hizbullah to attack Israel to overshadow talks on its nuclear issue in the G8 group, he said, "It is quite clear that this is a baseless charge aiming to save the Zionist regime from such a quagmire.

"Iran stands besides the Palestinian, Lebanese and Syrian nations and such accusations are unfounded."
Asefi warned the Zionist regime against any blunder to launch attacks on Syria, adding that expansion of war fronts and aggression on various countries will face the Zionist regime with unimaginable losses.

Asked whether Iran will support Syria if it is attacked by the Zionist regime, he said that the dimensions of such support depends on the Zionists' measures.

Turning to Iran's continued spiritual and humanitarian supports for Palestine, Lebanon and Syria, the Foreign Ministry official said that they will continue in future.

"All Islamic states are duty-bound to support these countries and the Arab world is now subject to a big test. Given the Zionists plots against Lebanon and Syria are applicable to other Arab countries, Arabs should pay special attention to the issue," he added.

Asefi said that the Palestinian issue can only be solved by holding a referendum for the Palestinian nation, including Muslims, Christians, Jews and migrants.

"Once such a referendum is held and a Palestinian government is elected, there will be hope that tranquility will return to the region," he said.

The official pointed to the support of various Lebanese factions for Hizbullah, he said that such support seals the doom of the Zionist regime's plot to sow discord among these groups.

About the recent crimes of the Zionist regime in the region, he said that due to its defeat in Palestine, the victory of Hamas and growing isolation facing it, the regime has another plan on its agenda aiming to ignite the flame of war to conceal such failures.

He referred to the Zionists pretext for attacks on Lebanon as illusive and said, "Given destruction of infrastructures of this Muslim state and bloodshed of its people, the Zionist regime itself will also face another failure and scandal."
Stressing that the Zionist regime can hardly manage to conceal the problems facing it by igniting the flame of war for several days, he called on the Islamic and Arab states to stand beside the Lebanese nation.

Rejecting the ultimatum of the Zionist regime to Syria, he said that the Iranian nation will support its Syrian counterpart.

Asefi referred to the US destructive role in the recent events, he said that it has so far vetoed 60 resolutions against the Zionist regime and has thus encouraged their crimes.

Addressing American officials, he told them to review their incorrect policies of supporting the Zionists in the region.
