Top leaders of ruling alliance, Maoists hold talks in Nepal

Top leaders of Nepal's ruling multi-party alliance and Maoists held a fresh round of informal talks here Saturday in an attempt to resolve differences on issues like arms management and monitoring of ceasefire blamed for impeding the progress of peace process.
Participants in the talks, which took place at a luxurious resort in the capital, from the Maoists' side included their chief, Prachanda, their second-in-rank leader, Baburam Bhattarai, and central member Agni Sapkota, a PTI report said here.
From the government's side, the delegates included Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Ram Chandra Poudyal, Vice-President Sushil Koirala, central member Chakra Bastola, Nepal Communist Party-UML General Secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal, politburo members Amrit Bohora, Bamdev Gautam and Jhalanath Khanal, party sources said.
"We were able to clear much of the confusion and differences that surfaced after the last meeting," Prachanda said after the talks, adding that the next such meeting will be held on July 21 for which a location was yet to be decided.
There was no official word about the talks and media persons were barred from entering the venue.
But the seven-party alliance (SPA) and the Maoist leaders were expected to discuss issues relating to management of arms, monitoring of the ceasefire, formation of an interim government and procedures for holding constituent assembly elections.
