General Dynamics Awarded $23 Million Contract to Upgrade U.S. Army Communications Network at Ft. Hood

FAIRFAX, Va. - General Dynamics Information Technology has been chosen by the U.S. Army to modernize communications and data network infrastructure at its base in Ft. Hood, Texas. The contract is valued at $23 million over two years, if all options are exercised. General Dynamics Information Technology, formerly General Dynamics Network Systems and Anteon Corp., is a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD).

At Ft. Hood, General Dynamics will upgrade the administrative communications system and voice network infrastructure, including a SONET transport network. The upgraded communications network will support III Corps as well as the garrison community.

“As a Power Projection Platform, Ft. Hood is a critical and strategic Army installation,” said Steve Coughlan, senior director of Army infrastructure operations for General Dynamics. “The award of this task order will allow us to continue supporting the warfighter and contributing to the mission of III Corps and the garrison community at Ft. Hood.”

This contract was competitively awarded under the Army's Digital Switched Systems Modernization Program, as part of the Installation Information Infrastructure Program (I3MP) program. I3MP is the Army's multi-year initiative to upgrade all of its installations worldwide, providing greater bandwidth to address increasing demands for voice, video, and data services.

This award continues General Dynamics Information Technology’s long legacy of providing network infrastructure solutions to the Army worldwide. The company is working on similar programs at Forts Bliss and Carson, as well as in Korea, Germany, Iraq and Kuwait.

This contract was awarded by the Defense Communications Systems CONUS, a unit of the Army's Project Manager, Defense Communications and Army Switched Systems (PM DCASS) organization.
