Russia, Germany to hold air force exercise July 17-20

RIA Novosti

13/07/2006 15:58 MOSCOW, July 13 (RIA Novosti) - Russia and Germany will conduct a joint air force exercise at a major NATO airbase on July 17-20, a Russian air force spokesman said Thursday.

"Exercises to improve operative compatibility of troops for 2006 will be held at Ramstein air base from July 17 to July 20," Colonel Alexander Drobyshevsky said adding that one Russian cargo plane would be involved.

He said a Russian Il-76 would help practice the compatibility of loading and off-loading work of NATO equipment and cargoes.

"Russia's Il-76 will not be involved in airlifting cargoes and personnel during the exercise," Drobyshevsky said.

He also said the exercise would be held to practice Russia-NATO anti-terrorism cooperation.
