EVERETT, Wash. (NNS) -- The Everett, Wash.-homeported frigate USS Ford (FFG 54) returned to Naval Station Everett after completing a six-month deployment in Central and South America, July 3.
Family and friends jockeyed for position on the pier as they waited patiently for their loved ones, and scores of people volunteered to make the homecoming a memorable occasion.
“Words can’t describe how happy I am right now seeing my wife and son,” said Lt. Paul Nagy. “The deployment was great. I was proud of the dedication and teamwork of the crew."
Musical sounds from the band “Sort of Dixie” helped provide a welcoming atmosphere. Everett community businesses also set up booths for the waiting crowd who were treated to free food and beverages.
“We are here to support the USS Ford's homecoming and show the Navy how important they are to the community,” said Sue Strickland, a member of the Downtown Everett Association.
There was an abundance of unique t-shirts and hats sported by the crowd at the homecoming. Homemade signs made it easier for Sailors to find their friends and family members.
The ship’s return home caps a successful six month counter narcotics deployment. The Perry-class frigate conducted various anti-drug operations, which heavily utilized its Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS) teams.
”It was a good cruise," said Senior Chief Gas Turbine Technician Electrician (SW), Ernest Cordova. "The crew responded well to the many aggressive situations we were put in."
“The crew’s performance was magnificent," added Ford Commanding Officer, Cmdr. Tim Sprato. "I was able to sit back and watch while they carried me on their shoulders."
